Mr. Chris Blais, a social studies teacher at Averill Park High school, challenged the APHS Kelsey’s Promise Club chapter to raise $5,000. If the students achieved their goal, he would shave his beard. Combining the club’s KP5K, t-shirt sales and vendor fair bake sale, students raised over $8,000! Mr. Blais shaved his beard AND HIS HEAD in front of TV cameras and the student body! Mid-shave Mr. Blais shouted to the moderator of the KP Club, “Coach Medici, how much was raised again?” Coach replied, “over $8,000”, to which Mr. Blais responded, “Shave it ALL! Shave the head, too!” What a moment and what a great man! Mr. Francesco De Rose from Frankie’s Barbershop did the honors!

First Annual KP5K 2K19
It was a rainy day on May 19, 2019 for our first annual KP5K 2K19, but that did not deter our crowd of 200 runners and walkers from coming out to support the Averill Park High School chapter of Kelsey’s Promise Club and Kelsey’s Promise Foundation 5K race! Our event had a kids fun run, medals, music, food, t-shirts, rock painting and wellness classes. In total we raised over $6,000! KP5K 2K20 is on track to be even bigger this year!

First Annual Sixteenth Note Soiree
Our first annual Sixteenth Note Soiree was held on March 16, 2019 at Franklin Plaza Ballroom. With over 200 guests and the tremendous support from our 40 sponsors, Kelsey’s Promise raised $50,000! We had fantastic auction items, attendance by Dr. Barbara Ostrov, Director of the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med and Dr. Joanne Porter, associate chief, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Director of the Journeys Program, a photobooth and dancing that went until the very end of the evening.
We hope you will consider joining us for Sixteenth Note Soiree 2020 on March 7, 2020 at Franklin Plaza Ballroom from 6 pm to 11 pm where we will again come together to raise funds to provide social work support the brain tumor patients and their families at The Melodies Center while also celebrating the extraordinary life of Kelsey Kittleson.
It is an event not to be missed!
Foundation Success!
Since launching Kelsey’s Promise on the first anniversary of Kelsey’s passing, July 8, 2018, our foundation has achieved great success, raising $80,000 in just eight months! The tremendous support we received enabled Albany Med to make the decision to add a social worker to focus exclusively on pediatric brain tumor patients to their staff. This year, we hope to exceed our own expectations and ensure that brain tumor patients will continue to have that essential, additional support. We hope you will join us (and bring your friends!) as we host our second annual Sixteenth Note Soiree 2020 on March 7, 2020 at Franklin Plaza Ballroom and KP5K 2K20 on May 31, 2020 at Averill Park High School. Help us as we continue to honor Kelsey’s life and legacy by doing our best to support families facing the unimaginable journey that is a pediatric brain cancer diagnosis.
